Topic Name: Hydrogels for the decontamination of polluted water
Category: Chemical

Details
Hydrogels are compounds that have a particular structure gives them unique characteristics: they can absorb quantities of water very important, are specific to certain properties of solids and liquids other measures. In particular, the electrically charged hydrogels are able to trap chemical species of opposite charge in forming complex molecules.
Turkish researchers from the University of Canakkale were able to synthesize new hydrogels cationic (positively charged) that can absorb the kinds of negative charge in solution. They make it possible to absorb the ink in an aqueous solution and let the solution, or to decontaminate water polluted with arsenic.
In addition, synthesized in the form of nano-emulsion, these hydrogels have a better efficiency. Thus, a solution containing arsenic in the form [AsO4] (3 -) is its concentration of arsenic decrease of 96% in less than 10 minutes to contact one of these new hydrogels.
