Future intelligence with microsystems

VISION
Our future life evolves towards a world where microsystems will add intelligence to almost every object that surrounds us. Sensing and actuating functionalities will be 'hidden' in the environment. They will be aware of context and able to interact wirelessly with people and with each other. These small electronic microsystems will work autonomously, based on their low-power consumption and energy scavenging from the environment.

Enabling technologies
Ultra-low-power wireless
- Ultra-low-power signal processing
- Micro-power systems
- Sensors and actuators
- Integrated sensor platforms (2D and 3D)

Strategic drivers with application orientation: healthcare and lifestyle, process automation, agriculture, mobile gaming, automotive...

IMEC has set up a legal entity in the Netherlands, Stichting IMEC Nederland (IMEC-NL), that runs the activities on wireless autonomous transducer solutions at the Holst Centre. IMEC is transferring part of its research to the Holst Centre. Both institutes jointly collaborate and build further on IMEC's past experience.

The Holst Centre is located at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The campus is a dynamic environment where constantly new high-tech companies and research groups settle. It is a place where industry and research institutes/universities meet to work on the future. Also, the available research infrastructure at the High Tech Campus (i.e. MiPlaza cleanrooms and associated facilities) is very attractive for the envisaged program lines of the Holst Centre.
