A new model of lie detector

A new model of polygraphic detector of lie was developed by Carlos Fernandes da Silva, psychologist and researcher in University of Aveiro. The test of detection of lie is based on a new model of interrogation. This model, presented at the time of the first Conference of Psychology and the Crimes at Coimbra, offers a better solution than the traditional test of question/answer proposed because it makes so that the questioned person visualizes the scenario of the crime mentally. Carlos Fernandes da Silva explains that is asked about speaking freely about the crime, as of elements which can appear pain-killers so as to tell the facts from a different space-time point of view.

According to Carlos Fernandes da Silva this cognitive interview increases up to 35% the effectiveness of the traditional police interrogation. The detection of the lie by the traditional polygraph was discredited because of the use which in was made by the criminal psychologists because the latter confronted the subject with the assumption to be the author of the crime, which caused a reaction of anxiety activating the nervous system and thus had erroneous results.

According to the researcher, although this new detector is currently in the course of validation, is still premature to consider its use in criminal research.

The Department of Sciences of the Education consists since the beginning of the University of Aveiro for support to the formation of professors. In the decade of 70 it was initiated with baccalaureates in education transformed into licensing in 1978. In 1987 the Department of Sciences of the Education gave place to the Departments of Basic Sciences of the Education and Didactical and Educative Technology. In 1996 it recouped the assignment that still today conserve: Department of Sciences of Education (DCE). Beyond the initial formation the DCE offers to continuous formation and postgraduate in some areas.
