Product Name: Chip resistor handles 2 watts in 2512 case size
Product Description
Raleigh, N.C. — Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has introduced a high-power, thickfilm chip resistor in a 2512 case size that is capable of handling 2 watts of power. The RHC series incorporate a unique design with specialized materials and processes that enables the resistors to run 30 degrees C cooler than standard 2512 chips and exhibits solder joint temperatures well below the industry standard for circuit boards of 105 degrees C. Maximum five second overload power is also increased by 70% over standard 2512 chips, and the performance of the RHC shows no additional resistance shift for the EIA 575 standard short time overload test at the elevated power rating, according to the company.
The RHC series is able to achieve tolerances of 1% and 5% at a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 100 ppm as a standard product. The chip resistors are available in E24 values from 0.1 ohm to 1 Mohm, and offer a continuous working voltage of 200 V. The only significant dimensional change is a larger bottom termination, which provides a more reliable termination with better heat conduction.
The RHC resistor has a special resistive element and coating that offer better heat transfer to the ambient air and are more tolerant to higher temperatures associated with high power, said the company. The product is also trimmed to more evenly distribute heat over the surface of the resistive element rather than concentrate the heat on a single hot spot as with normal calibration trims.
The RHC series resistors are suitable for applications requiring high-power density such as large control systems, power supplies, industrial machinery controls, high-power communications, UPS systems, HVAC controls, welding equipment and commercial ovens. The RHC devices are RoHS compliant. Click the link for additional information about Stackpole's chip resistor product line.
Standard pricing for the RHC 2512 is $0.12 each with a 5% tolerance and $0.18 each with a 1% tolerance. Available on tape and reel in 4,000 pieces, samples are available in three to four weeks.
