Boone, N.C. — Designed specifically for surge and pulse applications, TT electronics IRC Wire and Film Technologies Division's family of power MELF resistors feature extended performance capability with ratings up to 2 watts. Consisting of the CHP, SMC and HSF series resistors, the devices in the power MELF family all use IRC's Metal Glaze resistive element on ceramic substrates.
"The rugged CHP and SMC Series resistors are rated up to 2 W and provide maximum thermal compliance, while the HSF Series resistors offer as much as three times the surge rating of standard CHP resistors, which equates to up to 10 times the surge rating of similar-sized flat thickfilm chip resistors," said David Winkler, product manager for IRC's Wire and Film Technologies Division, in a statement. "The range of capabilities allows customers to select the best device to provide stable performance in harsh environment applications."
The Metal Glaze thickfilm element on the CHP series devices is fired at 1000°C to a solid ceramic substrate. The resistors feature power ratings of 1/4 W, 1/2 W, and 1 W at 70°C and 2 W at 25°C. The series offers resistance values from 0.2 ohm (Ω) to 2.2 megohms (MΩ) with standard tolerance to ±0.5%., a maximum voltage of up to 1000 V and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) ratings to ±25 ppm/°C.
The SMC series resistors feature metal caps fitted on the terminals of the cylindrical resistor body to give the devices exceptional thermal compliance. The resistors offer a maximum power rating of 1 W at 70°C for the 2512 package and 2 W at 70°C for the 3610 size. The resistance value range is 1Ω to 2.0 MΩ, with a standard tolerance to ±1%, and TCRs to ±50 ppm/°C.
The HSF series resistors feature an unspiralled thickfilm element and are designed to fit within the footprint of a standard 2512 chip. The HSF resistors provide a power rating of 1 W at 70°C and the working voltage is 350 V. The following resistance values are offered: 5.9Ω, 11Ω, 27Ω, 68Ω, and 270Ω, with a tolerance of ±10%, and TCRs to ±50 ppm/°C. The maximum operating temperature is 150°C.
