A UK contractor was manufacturing process and, wellhead equipment for the Polar Lights project in North Russia on the ConocoPhilips "Polar Lights" project. The project was based in an area of the Russian federation where temperatures can reach minus 40 degrees C. In addition to the construction challenges provided by the temperature, the project schedule and scope were demanding. Valves were manufactured in 7 different plants and the client required mixed item batches delivered to 3 locations. The order also ran over the Christmas period – introducing another complication. See an excerpt from a General Arrangement drawing for a 4" class 900 Double block and bleed type valve supplied on the order. We began by organising kick off meetings with all factories led by the PJV project manager. Tight control of production was achieved by utilising our in house expediting and documentation departments, as well as third party expediting companies. Our client was able to keep himself up to date with the use of our online order tracker system, supported by regular conversations, which kept meetings to a minimum. The result of our efforts was the on time delivery of all the valves, enabling the contractor to catch the ice-breaker to Russia.
