Eddy-current or EC drives are used in industrial applications where controlling speed or torque is the prime motivator. The primary elements of an eddy-current drive are an AC motor, and Eddy-Current clutch, a tachometer and a separate solid state controller. The clutch consists of two rotating members: a drum driven at a constant speed by the AC motor and, within the drum a rotor/output shaft which is connected to the load.
