Universal joint driveshafts and other couplings are used in wastewater treatment facilities and many kinds of pumping applications. Properly engineered driveshafts, with zero to several degrees of operating angle, coupled with length compensation of several inches, allow for maximum flexibility in motor - pump arrangement. New driveshaft designs, such as those using carbon fiber composite tubing, can span with one shaft the distance of three steel shafts, completely eliminating the need for steady bearings and their attendant maintenance.
