Product Description
BCSLIB-EXT is a Gordon Bell Award winning Fortran-77 library of powerful mathematical software modules for solving large linear algebra problems. Developed by Boeing Phantom Works Mathematics and Computing Technology, BCSLIB-EXT's strength is in solving two problems -- Ax=b and AX=BXΛ, where A and B are large sparse matrices. While these problems may be simple to write down, when the matrices become large, they are very difficult to solve. As a result, analyses must often be simplified to be solved in a reasonable amount of time and may not be as detailed as required.
BCSLIB-EXT is used to solve these sparse linear algebra problems, which arise in many applications. It is used by Boeing application packages for circuit analysis, trajectory optimization, chemical process control, machine tool path definition, constrained data fitting, and finite element analysis (FEA) programs.
FEA programs have, in fact, been revolutionized by the problem-solving capabilities of BCSLIB-EXT. Used extensively by the FEA community, BCSLIB-EXT solves problems arising out of static and frequency response analysis (which use Ax=b) and for buckling and vibration studies (using AX=BXΛ). Instead of taking days to solve problems of 50,000 variables, FEA programs using BCSLIB-EXT now solve problems in the range of 3 million variables in just hours! BCSLIB-EXT also helps free up some of the computing resources demanded by these applications.
What's so revolutionary about BCSLIB-EXT? Its problem-solving capabilities are based on the most effective algorithms -- the multifrontal algorithm and the block shifted and inverted Lanczos algorithm. Coupling these algorithms with world-class software enables BCSLIB-EXT to solve very large problems, problems on the order of millions of variables that were unsolvable 10 years ago.
BCSLIB-EXT is not tied to a particular class of computers. It runs efficiently on a range of machines -- from PCs to supercomputers to a variety of shared-memory multiprocessor supercomputers.
