Product Name: Laser & Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS)
Product Description
Boeing has developed the LEOS High Energy Laser systems to address
multiple defense needs and customers. Among the key LEOS programs are the
Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) program and Relay Systems.
The ATL ATCD supports Special Operations missions about a C-130 aircraft
using a high-energy laser system for effects-based engagements against ground
targets. The ATL program, which completed its critical design review in 2004,
will be demonstrated against ground targets of military interest in
operationally representative scenarios. The results will be incorporated into a
military utility assessment.
Relay Systems
Relay Systems enable precision strike capability against many time critical
ground targets including transportable erectable launchers (TELS) and airborne
threats such as cruise missiles. With a laser radar onboard, the Relay Systems
can actively track objects in space, detect cruise missiles and track or
designate elusive ground targets like TELS. Relay Systems multiply the
effectiveness of ground, sea and airborne high-energy laser weapon systems
against ballistic and cruise missiles. They also provide long-range, persistent
Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and targeting functions.
Relay Systems show promise to greatly enhance the performance of most laser
weapon systems currently being considered by the Department of Defense and will
increase their contribution to joint network centric operations.
