3D-HPG machining of high precision gears with all possible (tooth) shapes and corrections (see figure 1).

THE MATTER:
Precision gears (cylindrical gears, bevel gears, worm gears, sprocket chain wheel, face gears) are normally produced by (rough) milling or cutting , and after the heath treatment finished by grinding or hard metal machining (HPG, skiving). The current available machines for these kinds of treatments are CNC controlled gear machines, which require high investments. These kind of machines are only qualified for one kind of operating within a limited range. The tools for these machines are relatively expensive and sometimes even product depending.
The company “Bierens Machinefabrieken BV” in Tilburg (the Netherlands) is specialized in the designing and producing of gearboxes and gears within a wide oriented branch. Most of the times the quantities are single pieces or small series with a frequent request for special needs from the customer. The investments for above machines are a risk because it costs a lot of money, which likely is not efficient. To be flexible, our wish was also to use less complicated and cheaper tools for pre-machining and finishing of hardened products.
SOLUTION:
To anticipate in the needs to be more flexibel, we have chosen to invest in universal gearmachines wich are most suitable for not only soft, but also for hard materials. These machines are very easy/simple to program, and therefore the process is relatively simple.
By using this technology very high precision gears can be produced/made with a higher smoothness than conventional grinding.
INNOVATION:
This innovation contains also the universal description of different kind of gears (see figure 2.) like cylindrical gears (straight and diagonal), internal gear (straight and diagonal), conical gears (straight, diagonal and spiral), crowngears (straight and diagonal), wormgears en chain/sprocketgears.

This production method makes it possible to add toothshapes or corrections to a gear wich are not possible to use when producing on conventional machines. This proces/method request a new way of thinking, calculating en preparing the production. The possibilities and benefits become specified by the inventiveness and problemsolving qualities of the end customer/consumer en his problem.

Cost reduction by:
- Flexible process, suitable for small series;
- Powerful process for soft pre-machining and finishing of hardened products;
- Optimal production times by using/selecting efficient tools;
- Universal machinery and simple tools.

- 3D optimisation of geometric by using 3D corrections;
- High uniform (grinding) quality and better;
- Short leadtimes.
By using these 3D-HPG technology Bierens Machinefabrieken is able to compete with global producers of for example HPG bevelgears. Especially based on costprice, delivery times and flexibility we are able to perform well.
