ZigBee is a network protocol stack defined by the ZigBee Alliance, designed for use in wireless sensor networks. The stack works with Jennic's family of wireless microcontrollers and modules.
The ZigBee network stack supports star, tree and mesh network topologies, and provides self-healing functionality for robust communication. Developed on the IEEE802.15.4 standard, which operates in the globally unlicensed ISM 2.4GHz band.
In addition to the standard features defined by the ZigBee Alliance, Jennic offers various extensions, to ease the development process, increase the network reliability and enrich the functionality.
Interaction with the ZigBee network stack is achieved via Jenie and AT-Jenie easy-to-use interfaces: Jenie is a 'C' programming interface, whilst AT-Jenie is an Alpha-numeric Textual API which can be embedded, accessed through the on chip UART for dongle applications, and passed over the network layer between devices. These interfaces provide simplified access to all network and microcontroller functions, reducing the need for designers to understand the complexities of wireless networks.
