Rail

Product Name: Rail

Product Description

Composites provide lightweight solutions to railway vehicles and can save 30% to 60% of the weight as compared to comparable metal components. Lower overall weight translates into lower stress, faster acceleration and speeds, plus reduced starting and stopping inertia which are all important in recent high-speed projects in Germany, Spain, Italy and China.

For passenger railway vehicles, fire, smoke, and toxic fume (FST) are key safety requirements for interior components or for trains that operate in tunnels or underground, or without a crew.

Any material selected for an interior component and many exterior components must meet certain international flame retardant standards.

Because of the stringent fire, smoke, and toxic fume requirements that most nations apply to, passenger railway vehicles are operated within their borders and as a result Phenolics are increasingly finding their way into railway interior applications.
