As manager of the Great
Lakes Industrial Technology Center (GLITeC), Battelle helps bring NASA
technology to companies outside the traditional aerospace industry. GLITeC’s
services are designed to help companies identify, acquire, adapt, and use
federal technology and capabilities. GLITeC works with over 1,000 companies a
year, providing support ranging from locating technical experts and information
to identifying new market and product opportunities. GLITeC assists a variety of
companies, of all sizes and in all areas of technology.
GLITeC meets customers' needs through the following services:
- Information Services: GLITeC performs searches and provides reports
on technology data, funding, and patents.
- Technology Needs Assessment: GLITeC staff or NASA scientists will
analyze technology needs and provide technical consulting, brainstorming, or
referral services.
- Commercialization Services: GLITeC 's commercialization services
range from reviewing business plans to developing cooperative joint
development projects between companies and NASA.
GLITeC also creates innovative programs that lower the cost or risk for
companies to explore or apply NASA technology. Selected examples include:
Glennan Microsystems,
Inc. leverages federal and state support with industrial membership to
advance microsystems research and industrial applications development. The
Initiative offers the world-class expertise, innovative technologies, and
state-of-the-art facilities of NASA Glenn Research Center and Case Western
Reserve University.
The NASA Glenn
Garrett Morgan Commercialization Initiative (GMCI) is a unique program
designed to increase the competitiveness of small, minority- and woman-owned
businesses in the Great Lakes region by providing enhanced access to NASA
technology, programs, and expertise.
NASA Illinois
Commercialization Center (NICC), in partnership with the Illinois Coalition,
provides strategic technology management, technology access, and
commercialization services to Illinois companies.
