Product Description
The CHEM4-UV-FIBER covers the 200-885 nm range, has optical resolution of 1.0
nm (FWHM) and captures 3648 wavelengths in <1 second. The system is ideal for
relative irradiance and emission measurements.
The CHEM4-UV-FIBER combines a USB4000 Spectrometer with modular accessories
including an ISS-UV-VIS
Integrated Sampling System, a 300
µm solarization-resistant optical fiber and a 1-cm cuvette holder for
absorbance measurements.
The advantage of an optical fiber based system is flexibility. Add
accessories including reflectance
probes and dip probes for even more measurement options.

Light Source and Sample Holder
The CHEM4-UV-FIBER setup uses the ISS-UV-VIS
Integrated Sampling System, a combination RF deuterium source with a
tungsten bulb in a housing connected to a holder for 1-cm cuvettes. The
ISS-UV-VIS attaches to the spectrometer via a 300 µm solarization-resistant
optical fiber. The advantage of this design is that the light source can be
easily coupled to other fiber optic accessories such as reflection probes or
transmission dip probes.
Programmable Microcontroller
The CHEM4-UV-FIBER uses our USB4000
Spectrometer. The USB4000 features an onboard programmable microcontroller
that provides you with considerable flexibility in controlling the spectrometer
and accessories. Through a 22-pin connector, you can implement all operating
parameters in the software: control light sources, create processes, and
retrieve information on external objects. You have access to 8 user-programmable
digital Inputs/Outputs for interfacing to other equipment. (Contact

Modular Design
Ocean Optics offers complete line of fiber
optic sampling accessories and teaching
tools to further enhance your CHEM4-UV-FIBER system. Most accessories have
SMA 905 connectors for application flexibility; changing the sampling system is
as easy as unscrewing a connector and adding new components or accessories.
Plug-and-Play Operation
The CHEM4-UV-FIBER interfaces to a PC, PLC or other embedded controllers via USB 2.0 or RS-232 serial port. When using the serial port, the system requires a single 5-volt power supply (not included). Data unique to each spectrometer is programmed into a memory chip on the USB4000; our spectrometer operating software reads these values for easy setup and hot swapping among PCs.
Serial port operation tips: When using the serial port, the CHEM4-UV-FIBER requires a single 5-volt power supply (not included). Also, SpectraSuite Spectroscopy Software does not support spectrometer operation via the serial port. However, using the included Serial Port Command Set, you can write your own software that makes serial port operation possible.
