Product Description

Optimizing performance and controlling production costs are two of the biggest challenges facing manufacturers of coated groundwood specialties, lightweight-coated (LWC) and ultralightweight-coated (ULWC) paper today. Engelhard high-performance pigments can help these manufacturers do both. Available in engineered, delaminated, standard and calcined grades (see below), Engelhard paper pigments are known to impart whiteness, brightness, opacity and print and sheet gloss, as well as improve ink holdout. They also can help manufacturers reduce costs, either by extending high-value ingredients or replacing them. This combination of high performance and cost efficiency makes Engelhard paper pigments the ideal choice for coated groundwood, LWC and ULWC applications. 

Other Engelhard products used in paper coating applications incude Mearlin®, Lumina™, and Firemist™ special effect pigments, which are used to impart luster, opalescence, pearlescence and other unique characteristics. 

Engineered grades

Mirana™ CO coating pigment delivers unprecedented value to manufacturers of LWC and ULWC papers. This premium-brightness pigment provides exceptional hiding, sheet opacity, brightness and printability, and also dramatically reduces total coating color costs by reducing the need for titanium dioxide and/or plastic pigment in product formulations. Other Engelhard engineered-grade pigments include Miraclipse™ PG and Eclipse 650.

Delaminated grades

Engelhard delaminated pigment grades include Nuclay®, Nufil®, Nugloss® and Nugen™. Nuclay and Nugen pigments are excellent choices for LWC and ULWC applications that require low coat weights with superior fiber coverage. Nugloss pigment offers higher gloss and superior fiber coverage, smoothness and brightness, while Nufil pigment provides premium brightness and opacity in wet-end filling applications. 

Standard grades

Engelhard offers several standard-grade coating products, including Ultra White® 90, Ultra COTE® , Lustra® and HT® .

Calcined grades

Finally, in calcined grades, Engelhard Ansilex® 93, Luminex® and Excaliber® pigments help manufacturers of groundwood specialties, LWC and ULWC papers achieve sheet opticals at minimum cost by extending or replacing other more expensive raw materials.
