From New York to Los Angeles and London to Hong Kong, emissions from diesel-powered buses and trucks are a major contributor to poor air quality. Diesel engines emit a complex mixture of gaseous and solid matter that is connected to health problems, including respiratory and cardiovascular disease, bronchitis, and premature mortality. 

Diesel engines, however, are exceptional workhorses. Diesels power most buses and trucks because they are fuel efficient, cheaper to maintain, reliable, and easy to repair. Heavy-duty diesel truck engines are rebuilt repeatedly and last for more than a million miles. Diesel buses can operate on city streets for 15 to 20 years. With Engelhard technology, diesels can run cleaner and meet increasingly stringent regulations worldwide.

New US regulations will require reductions of more than 90% in nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emitted from new diesel engines between by 2007. European regulations require NOx reductions of 60% and PM reductions of more than 75% by 2008.
