Plastic components are used extensively in automobile manufacturing to reduce weight and overall production costs. Making these components look great is just one more thing Engelhard technologists excel at. They've developed a broad range of special effect pigments that make plastic components stand out. For example, Engelhard Exterior Mearlin® pigments impart a range of optical effects from a soft, satin luster to a sharp metallic brilliance, while Lumina® colors bring high chroma and extreme color purity. Firemist™ patented borosilicate-based pigments impart brilliant color and a starlike glitter effect and enhance the feeling of depth in plastic coatings. Engelhard Black Olive™ pigment, a black, mica-based pigments with champagne undertones, adds depth and luster to both water- and solvent-based plastic coating formulations. 

Also, for many nylon under-the-hood and mechanical parts, such as mirror housings and hubcaps, Translink® reinforcements are used to improve strength and heat distortion, while maintaining high impact strength and lowering costs.
