Engelhard offers a broad range of products for architectural coating, from colorants and special effect pigments to high-performance mineral additives.
Engelhard color pigments and dispersions impart color, tint strength, opacity and durability to architectural coatings. For example, Engelhard Aurasperse® and Aurasperse® II aqueous color dispersions balance good economy, rich color value, high consistency and broad compatibility, while Meteor® and Meteor® Plus complex inorganic color pigments (CICPs) are extremely lightfast and temperature, chemical and long-term weather resistant and are good color solutions for challenging outdoor applications. Similarly, Options© universal machine colorants are ideal for use in trade sale architectural paints, due to their excellent lightfastness and exterior durability. Options colorants also are featured in the Engelhard Portfolio© Color Collection, a dynamic paint color system encompassing over 1,300 different colors.
Engelhard special effect pigments are used in architectural coatings to drive new aesthetic trends and create more dynamic visual impact. Created by some of the brightest minds in effect pigment technology, formulation and product marketing, this expansive family of products adds luster, dimensionality, depth, opalescence, pearlescence and other unique characteristics to create exceptional architectural coatings and paint products. Key product lines include Mearlin® luster pigments, Firemist© pigments, and Lumina® colors.
Going beyond color and special visual effects, Engelhard products also are used extensively to improve and/or maintain architectural coating performance at competitive cost and extend higher-cost pigments. For example, Alsibronz® mica reinforcements provide excellent exterior durability, weather resistance and resistance to ultraviolet (UV) degradation, reduced cracking and peeling and improved washability, while Attagel® attapulgite products offer effective thixotropic thickening. Satintone® calcined kaolins and ASP® hydrous kaolins act as cost-effective titanium dioxide and pigment extenders in a broad range of coating applications. Satintone® Mattex, a new product grade, offers a combination of high hiding and very low sheen in flat wall paints. And Ultrex® pigment extenders are engineered to provide excellent tint strength and opacity, cleaner whites and colors and excellent titanium dioxide extension.
