Product Name: B301 - Radiological Emergency Response Operations (RERO)
Product Description
This is a 4.5 day performance-based course where the participants learn to respond to, and manage, radiological incidents. The participants, organized as response teams, operate and make decisions in a realistic exercise environment.
The course goal is to provide participants with the operational requirements and techniques for proper response and management of incidents involving various radiological hazards through a practical, performance oriented, team response approach.
Who Should Attend
Participants who are members of organized federal, state, local, or tribal radiological/hazardous materials response teams, or who are responsible for responding and possibly managing a radiation incident. Personnel assigned to such teams include fire service, law enforcement, health physicists, industrial hygienists, radiological officers, and other emergency service personnel with similar responsibilities. Federal evaluators of nuclear power plant off-site REP exercises and, state, local, tribal, and utility personnel who are involved in the development of off-site REP plans and exercises also may apply.
Methodology
The course consists of classroom lectures, to teach the concepts of team building and planning, and a series of performance-based field exercises that includes on-scene incident assessment, radiological monitoring, radiation exposure and contamination control, and reporting procedures. Because of the realism of the exercises, this course is physically challenging.
