Cisco ONS 15400 Series

Product Name: Cisco ONS 15400 Series

Product Description

Cisco ONS 15400 Series
The Cisco ONS 15454 SONET and Cisco ONS 15454 SDH multiservice provisioning platforms are industry leaders with more than 1000 customers and 40,000 systems deployed worldwide. The Cisco ONS 15454 provides the functions of many traditional SONET and SDH network elements in a single platform, combining advanced SONET/SDH transport through OC-192/STM-64, integrated dense wavelength-division multiplexing optical networking, and multiservice interfaces.

Part of the Cisco Complete Optical Multiservice Edge and Transport product line, the Cisco ONS 15454 combines the capacity of advanced optical transport with the intelligence of IP to cost-effectively deliver voice and data services.

Models

Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP)

Averaging one major release per year since its introduction, the ONS 15454 has evolved into a comprehensive solution that reduces expenses while maximizing network efficiency and providing investment protection for over 1,000 Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP) and 500 MSTP customers worldwide.

The Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) is the most deployed metropolitan-area (metro) and regional dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) solution in the world featuring two- through eight-degree reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) technology that enables wavelength provisioning across entire networks and eliminates the need for optical-to-electrical-to-optical (OEO) transponder conversions. The ONS 15454 MSTP interconnects with Layer-2, Layer-3 and storage area network (SAN) devices at rates up to 40 Gbps. It delivers any service type to any network location and supports all DWDM topologies.

The platform offers reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM) functions that allow zero to 40 channels of pass-through or add/drop in both the C-band and the L-band, A-Z wavelength provisioning, and full real-time power monitoring of each individual wavelength.
DWDM Innovations for Ethernet Service Delivery

Cisco continues to innovate and consolidate its optical portfolio with new technologies, like the flexible and cost-effective XPonder which provides Gbps Ethernet extension and aggregation over DWDM, and Cisco IP over DWDM, which integrates DWDM compatible ITU optics directly on Cisco’s core routers.

Cisco also leads the world in ROADM deployments. The ROADM portfolio provides the right sized, right priced configurations for any DWDM deployment. Cisco’s experience collaborating with the world’s leading and most innovative service providers has resulted in the right ROADM solutions, at the right time.

Benefits of ROADM and DWDM Technologies

  • Comprehensive network design tool - Cisco TransportPlanner
  • Automatic node and network setup
  • Automatic optical power management and monitoring
  • Single management interface (single IP address) for all the shelves in a node
  • Network-level alarm correlation for quick and easy troubleshooting (G.798-based)

Services Supported in a Single Platform

  • Aggregated lower-rate TDM services from DS1/E1 over 2.5-Gbps and 10-Gbps wavelengths
  • SONET/SDH wavelength and aggregated services: OC-3/STM-1 to OC-768/STM-256
  • Data services: Private-line, switched, and wavelength-based, from Ethernet to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GE LAN and WAN physical layer)
  • Storage services: 1-, 2-, 4-, and 10-Gbps Fibre Channel, FICON, ESCON, ETR/CLO, ISC-1, ISC-3
  • Video services: D1 and high-definition television (HDTV)
  • Digital-wrapper technology (defined in ITU-T G.709) for enhanced wavelength management and extended optical reach with integrated
  • Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Enhanced FEC

Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP)
