DRS's products demand complex engineered packaging. These packages must be compact, supply carefully regulated clean power, provide adequate cooling for high-speed high-consumption electronic and microwave assemblies, support modular configuration of products, provide easy to use blind mate interfaces, ensure mechanical and static protection and, in many cases, provide high quality EMI shielding and protection from extreme and harsh environmental conditions. 

DRS's packages are built around standard form factors, accepting a very wide range of custom and off-the-shelf assemblies. All of these packages are rugged, with careful attention paid to stiffness and strength, harness design and routing, and LRU support, while achieving the minimum possible weight. 

EMI Shielding is available for all of DRS's systems. Engineers at DRS have developed methods for limiting conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility, while controlling cost and overall complexity. 

Thermal management is based on careful analysis of heat sources, conduction and convection paths, modeling of air flow, and design with margin for worst case environments and product configurations. 

DRS's packaging meets all of the rigorous demands for support of complex assemblies while ensuring that modularity, ease of access and minimum time to repair are not compromised. Line Replaceable Units are typically blind-mated, use standard interfaces, are easily accessible, and can be removed and installed with simple tools and procedures. Critical interfaces are mechanically keyed to ensure that LRUs are correctly installed. 

DRS's standard Radar Threat Simulator packages range from desk-top instruments to complex multi-rack systems, all supporting a common set of LRUs, and all with compatible interfaces.
