Product Description

A member of the DRS MDA (MSE/TRI-TAC Data Adapter) product family, the MDA-38 Eight Channel Digital Non-secure Voice Terminal (DNVT) is a tactical gateway between commercial telephone switching systems and MSE or TRI-TAC military communication networks. The MDA-38 translates up to eight external analog lines from a commercial switch into eight MSE/TRI-TAC four-wire subscriber loops, thus allowing dial-up connectivity between commercial telephone company subscribers and MSE/TRI-TAC subscribers. 

Hookswitch, DTMF dialing, and transmit analog voice from the commercial switch are translated into digital signaling and digitized voice for the MSE/TRI-TAC network; digital signaling and digitized voice from the MSE/TRI-TAC network are translated into ring indication and receive analog voice for the commercial switch. Housed in as 19-inch rack mount chassis, the MDA-38 contains eight independent, embedded, DNVTs. Each channel meets all the performance requirements of a standard DNVT enabling the DRS MDA-38 to operate with all MSE and TRI-TAC compatible switches and multiplexers. Incorporated on the front panel is a local control function including handset, dialing keypad, volume controls, hookswitch, channel status LEDs and a channel selection switch. Local control is used for channel affiliation (assignment of MSE/TRI-TAC telephone numbers) and for call monitoring.
