Technical Details
Location-based applications such as MiLocator use the network infrastructure
and location technology elements many operators around the world are deploying
in 3GPP or 3G-1x networks.
MiLocator uses both mobile client and server software for a more efficient and
user-friendly subscriber interface. The MiLocator client works on a wide range
of phones that have varying capabilities and adapts to them automatically. Its
client footprint is highly optimized to about 75 kilobytes, while retaining all
of the rich location features. For further flexibility, it functions with all
underlying mobile location technology available today.
MiLocator can support a range of location technologies, from the most basic to
sophisticated – including manual input of user location or network-based
location identification through Cell/Sector-ID, triangulation, Advance Forward
Link Triangulation (AFLT) or Assisted-Global Positioning System (A-GPS).
MiLocator location tracking and information capabilities are best supported in
conjunction with high accuracy handsets and network elements, such as Hybrid
AFLT/A-GPS solutions in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) 1x network or
Enhanced Time Difference of Arrival (E-TDOA) in a Global System for Mobile
Communications (GSM) or Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)
network.
