MTU shares in the development of this novel engine type, cooperating with General Electric, Pratt & Whitney and Snecma Moteurs. A clean-sheet design, the GP7000 engine family will be used in long-haul service. It is targeted at the Airbus A380 and other emerging Airbus and Boeing mega-transports. The first flight of a GP7000-powered A380 took place on August 25, 2006.
