The Alcatel-Lucent 1626 Light Manager (LM) is a versatile, multi-reach DWDM platform that allows service providers to build networks that vary in scope from regional to pan-continental. The Alcatel-Lucent 1626 LM helps carriers move a step toward an all-optical network implementation and the resulting reduction in overall transmission cost and improved network performance. 

The Alcatel-Lucent 1626 LM combines the best of both submarine and terrestrial technologies to provide unmatched performance at the lowest cost. For very long haul and ultra long haul terrestrial applications, the Alcatel-Lucent 1626 LM offers a capacity of up to 192 channels at 10 Gb/s in the extended C-band, spanning distances up to 4,500 km without electrical regeneration. For long haul applications, with transmission distances less than 600 km, the Alcatel-Lucent 1626 LM provides moderate-capacity, 32-channel networks, implemented with low-cost standard amplifiers. The Alcatel-Lucent 1626 LM also supports unrepeatered submarine applications, connecting land masses without submerged repeaters. The Alcatel-Lucent 1626 LM's optimized configuration for each application enables service providers to implement the most suitable technology, no matter what distance is covered.

The Alcatel 1626 Light Manager (LM) is a global third-generation DWDM transmission platform that addresses regional, long haul (LH) and ultra long haul (ULH) terrestrial applications and unrepeatered submarine systems. The 1626 LM helps service providers lower the overall transmission cost per bit in the core of the network by minimizing CAPEX and optimizing OPEX.

COST-EFFECTIVE UPGRADE FOR EXISTING NETWORKS

The core building block of the 1626 LM is the Optical Network Extender (ONE) shelf.m With the ONE shelf, service providers can upgrade their channel count and extend the reach in the optics of their existing DWDM equipment — while remaining in service. This capability eliminates costly fork-lift upgrades.

Whether you’re upgrading an existing network or building a new network, the 1626 LM is cost-effective and simple to manage. Plug-and-play and self-tuning features ease and speed up installation, provisioning and commissioning of the system. Automation also ensures hitless traffic transmission when you’re adding new wavelengths to the system, and guarantees optimal performance. The 1626m LM’s reconfigurable OADM (ROADM) feature provides operations access to any wavelength anywhere in the network, regardless of the traffic forecast. The 1626 LM is fully managed by the Alcatel 1350 Management Suite, providing an entire range of operations support system applications from network planning and design to provisioning. Supporting the ITU Optical Transport Network suite of standards, the 1626 LM enables end-toend management of the optical layer.

The combination of extended ULH performance and enhanced system capacity makes the 1626 LM the ideal product for the growing networks of service providers. The 1626 LM architecture supports up to 192 channels of 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s in the C band. Class-leading forward error correction (FEC) provides the high coding gain needed for ULH — up to 4,500 kilometers — and unrepeatered submarine systems — up to 400 kilometers. The versatility of the 1626 LM also enables cost-optimized configurations for regional applications requiring lower capacity — typically 32 channels — and much lower distance reach. TDM transponders for optical channel grooming bring further bandwidth savings. The 1626 LM supports protected or unprotected linear links, rings, and meshed networks.
