E-665

Product Name: E-665

Product Description

E-665
The E-665 is a bench-top piezo linear amplifier and position servo-controller with integrated high-speed RS-232 computer interface and 20-bit D/A converter. The low-noise amplifier can supply/sink a peak current of 360 mA in a voltage range of -20 to 120 V. Versions are available to operate with SGS, LVDT or capacitive position sensors, making the servo-controller suitable for a wide variety of PI piezo actuators and stages. The E-665 can be operated in six different ways:

I. Open-Loop Manual Control (power-supply mode):
Output voltage can be set by a 10-turn, DC-offset potentiometer in the range of 0 to 100 V.

II. Open-Loop External Control (amplifier mode):
Output voltage is controlled by an analog signal applied to the BNC input. This input plus any DC-offset must be in -2 to +12 V, which, times the gain factor of 10, gives an output voltage range of -20 to +120 V. The DC-offset ranges from 0 to 10 V and is set with the front-panel potentiometer, allowing continuous shifting of the 14-volt-wide input voltage range within -12 to +12 V.

III. Open-Loop Computer Control:
Output voltage is controlled via the RS-232 computer interface with a resolution of 20 bits. The DC-offset potentiometer and BNC analog input are inactive when in computer control mode.

IV. Closed-Loop (position control mode) Manual Control:
Displacement of the PZT can be set by a 10-turn, DC-offset potentiometer in the range of zero to nominal displacement.

V. Closed-Loop External Control:
Displacement of the PZT is controlled by an analog signal in conjunction with the DC-offset potentiometer. With a unipolar actuator, the controller is typically set up and calibrated in such a way that 10 V corresponds to maximum nominal displacement and 0 V corresponds to 0 displacement. The DC-offset potentiometer adds a 0 to 10 V bias to the input, allowing continuous shifting of the 10-volt-wide input voltage range within
-10 V to +10 V (see page see link).

VI. Closed-Loop Computer Control:
Displacement of the PZT is controlled via the RS-232 computer interface with a resolution of 20 bits. The DC-offset potentiometer and BNC analog input are inactive when in computer control mode.

Powerful Computer Interface
The RS-232 interface supports fast communication with the host computer, with up to 300 bidirectional read/write operations per second, and also includes a high-precision 20-bit D/A and A/D converter for optimum position stability and resolution.

Wave Table
User-defined data points, calculated with an arbitrary function, can be stored in a Wave Table in the E-665 for later output under control of an external trigger.

Multi-Axis Network up to 12 Channels
Up to 12 E-665s can be networked and controlled over a single RS-232 interface. Parallel networking is used between the
E-665’s, providing higher data rates than possible with serial links.

Software / Command Set
The E-665 controller comes with Windows™ installation software, DLLs and Lab View™ drivers. The command structure of the extensive command set is based on the PI General Command Set (GCS). The GCS was developed by PI to facilitate the programming and operation of a wide range of different devices with a common command language, thus reducing the programming effort in the face of complex multi-axis positioning tasks. It is also supported by the E-516 Computer Interface Module, and most PI nanopositioning controllers and motor controllers.
