APPLICATIONS
The Alcatel 9400 LX Microwave is a family of digital
point-to-point radio systems designed to satisfy the numerous digital
transmission needs of public and private networks for multiple applications. The
long-haul microwave systems of the Alcatel 9400 LX Microwave family offer
homogeneous technical solutions from 1.5 to 8 GHz thereby ensuring maximum radio
performances in each band. The 1.5, 2, 7 and 8 GHz bands are internationally
normalized frequency bands for the transmission of low and medium capacities.
The long-haul microwave systems are particularly recommended for long distance
connections in sub-urban and rural areas, they can also be used for the roll-out
of public and private networks, in suburban or urban zones:
• regional and local traffic for telephone transmission and
data
• Utility networks (pipelines, electricity, railways, etc..)
• cellular mobile networks
• cellular LMDS
• private data networks (WANs, LANs) and digital terminals
connections (PABX, videoconference etc…)
CAPACITY
The long-haul microwave system features embedded multiplexing
and transmission functions for the following capacities: 2x2, 4x2, 8x2, 16x2,
1x8, 2x8, 3x8+4x2, 4x8 and 34+2 Mbit/s.
STANDARDS
The Alcatel 9400 LX Microwave family is compliant to ITU-R, ITU-T,
ETSI standards, including EMC, and safety standards.
TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
• Excellent spectrum efficiency is achieved, using 4QAM or
16QAM modulation digital filtering.
• The modem features Forward Error Correction (FEC) and
equalizer for even better radio performance.
• The digital frame incorporates a link identity code to
prevent from the capture of an unwanted signal.
• The tunable RF local oscillators provide coverage of wide
bandwidths and customized frequency arrangements.
• The system features near-and remote-end loopback facilities
as well as an embedded tributary cross-connect matrix for test or network
reconfiguration purposes.
• Capacity upgrade is very easy: different software packages
make the system capacity-agile, up to a maximum which can be as high as 16x2
Mbit/s with the same unit.
• Integrated 2 Mbit/s wayside traffic is also available (at
16x2, 4x8 and 34 Mbit/s).
• This configuration can be extended to multiline systems up
to 5+1.
• 1+1 to 5+1 configurations use embedded automatic errorless
receiver switching to protect the most critical transmission paths.
• The system incorporates built-in test functions such as a
pseudorandom bit sequence generator able to insert a standard test signal for
bit error rate measurements.
THREE COMPACT MECHANICAL
DESIGNS
To meet diverse needs, the long-haul microwave systems exist in
3 versions.
• The 19” subrack version offers a very compact design for
1+0 and 1+1 non extensible configurations in 10 U only.
• The Indoor-Outdoor version offers an alternative for 1+0 and
1+1 max configurations at 7/8 GHz. It consists in two main parts:
- an Outdoor Unit (ODU)
- an Indoor Unit (IDU)
The ODU is designed for operation in harsh climatic conditions
and features compact light-weight design. Its mounting kit permits easy
installation on various types of supporting structures (mast, wall...) The ODU
offers received signal level and a connection to the service channel of the link
by means of a service kit enabling quick installation. A single standard coaxial
cable, between the two main units, carrying the main traffic, the remote supply
voltage and auxiliary information over long runs. The IDUs are exactly the same
as the IDUs of the short-haul microwave systems (homogeneous indoor/outdoor
family from 7 to 38 GHz).
• The slim ETSI cabinet version (reduced height 1800mm)
features the full range of configurations up to 5+1 and is oriented to
extensible applications in a very compact package: a omplete 2+1 terminal
station fits in a single 300mm-wide cabinet
A FULL RANGE OF OPTIONS
• Software determines maximum system capacity, defining the
capacity agility range.
• Terminal or repeater stations.
• Repeater stations have a drop-insert capability on
tributaries.
• The long-haul microwave systems can incorporate as many as
five 64 kbit/s auxiliary channels with a wide range of voice and data options.
• The systems can be fitted with independent standby channel
for frequency diversity (N+1) configurations of ETSI cabinet versions.
• Multiplex & switching elements can be protected on
request.
• The TS/TC function can provide an extension of equipment
alarms and controls in 19” and ETSI rack version.
EASY INSTALLATION, SET-UP &
OPERATION
Thanks to its mechanical design, built-in test functions and
user-friendly PC interface (WindowsTM environment), the long-haul microwave
systems allow fast and affordable installation as well as quick set-up and easy
operation.
SIMPLIFIED MAINTENANCE
The Alcatel 9400 LX Microwave family achieves maximum
commonality across frequencies and capacities, greatly reducing spare part and
training requirements. The high reliability is obtained through the use of
advanced technologies, highly qualified components and severe test procedures in
factory. High MTBF limits the maintenance to routine visits.
NETWORK MANAGEMENT
(Alcatel 1300)
The Alcatel 9400 LX Microwave family features a unique concept
of network management offering solutions from very small to very large networks,
in an evolutionary path:
• Standalone solution using integrated management, with
reporting of alarms and controls, configuration management and performance
monitoring (G821, …) to a master terminal (for small networks using the
Alcatel 9400 LX Microwave family). This user-friendly management requires only a
PC in a WindowsTM environment.
• For medium-sized networks (up to several hundred network
elements) or for networks involving other types of network elements (optical
lines, multiplexers,…), it is only necessary to add an external mediation
function to the existing PC.
• Even larger or complex networks can be managed in the
Alcatel TMN using a workstation, through a QB3* interface. Evolution toward SNMP
protocol is considered.
SERVICES
Fulfilling any customer requirement, supporting operators is a
key issue for Alcatel. Therefore, a full range of services areproposed, such
as:
• Hot line
• On line: repair and return express, swap and repair, spare
parts, software update, …
