The Alcatel 1521 FL is delivered in two variants:
> The 1521 FL with 4 x E1 and 4 x X.21 interfaces
> The 1521 FL Basic with 4 x E1 interfaces The Alcatel 1521
FL is a combined 4 x 2 Mb/s multiplexer and optical line terminal, intended for
transport of 2 Mb/s streams for leased lines, ISDN primary rate access (PRA)
connections, X.21 and various other applications in the access network. The
plug-and-play design allows for a quick and easy installation. The typical
customer terminal, 1521 FL desktop unit, is equipped with an X.21 data interface
and data communications equipment (DCE) functions for leased-line application.
The basic function is to provide a customer with 4 x 2 Mb/s access to an
exchange via a single mode (SM) optical fiber cable, but it can also be used
with multimode (MM) fibers. The fiber route comprises one or two fibers for
transmission. 1+1 line protection is possible with a duplication of the fiber
route and 1521 FL terminals.
FEATURES
The Alcatel 1521 FL supports several CRC4 configurations.
Auxiliary channels in the optical signal are two 704 kHz oversampled data
channels (V.11 interface) with adaptation for remote access to a Q2 bus (ITU-T
G.773). The recommended maximum bit rate is 64 kb/s.
SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD
A software download feature is available to allow for upgrade of
the local and remote units from the CO side.
PROTECTION
A 1+1 protection configuration is realized by duplicating the
fiber connection and the optical terminals. Switching between the paths is
controlled automatically or manually. The automatic switching criteria are loss
of line signals/frame alignment and bit errors in the received signal. Manual
switching is controlled either by a command from a PC or by the element
management system (EMS).
SUPERVISION AND MANAGEMENT
Local and remote alarm indications and alarm outputs are
available. Quality and alarm information for the local and remote terminals is
collected and processed in the local terminal for transfer to a PC or to the
EMS. For smaller, low-cost installations, the Alcatel 1521 FL can be operated
with a locally connected PC to configure the line system. Alarm and status
information is displayed on the front of the unit by four LEDs. From the 1521
FL, two dry-loop alarm output circuits are available. One indicates an urgent
alarm condition and the other indicates a non-urgent alarm condition on the line
system. In addition, there are four external dry-loop alarm inputs available on
the desktop/1U variants.
Remote Management over IP Networks
The Alcatel 1353 LineView element management system (EMS)
communicates with the fiber line controller card (FLCC) via IP/SNMP. Two CO
configurations enable remote management:
> 1521 FL line systems installed in S9 subracks equipped with
an FLCC board
> 1521 FL line systems installed in a 1U 1521 shelf and
connected to a 1U FLCC shelf The Alcatel 1353 LineView EMS is a powerful tool
for day-to-day operations and management of the optical fiber line system (OFLS).
Operation of the system is carried out through a GUI. Typical features are
centralized fault monitoring and remote configuration. The 1353 LineView EMS can
be deployed in an existing network without any traffic disturbance or need for
reconfiguration. The 1353 LineView will adopt the current configuration of the
OFLS. The 1353 LineView supports multiple users, and the GUI can be run remotely
from a web browser. The FLCC has an Ethernet interface carrying IP, with an SNMP
agent supporting the 1353 LineView EMS. The SNMP agent communicates with the
line cards through a local management bus.
Remote Management over TMN Networks
The 1521 FL line cards in an S9 subrack with an Alcatel common
network controller card (CNCC) board can be managed over a classical
telecommunications management network (TMN) based on Q2 and Q3 interfaces. This
allows a centralization of operation and maintenance facilities through a
mediation device.
