Product Name: Alcatel-Lucent 7321 Remote Unit Enhanced Density

Product Description

The Alcatel-Lucent 7321 Remote Unit Enhanced Density (RU ED), part of Alcatel-Lucent's remote unit portfolio, consists of a number of products for the access network. The Alcatel-Lucent 7321 RU is a small ATM digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM), intended to be used in the access network, both inside and outside the central office (CO). The Alcatel-Lucent 7321 RU provides the latest multi-ADSL flavors, including ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2plus, and RE-ADSL2.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7321 RU enables service providers to extend DSL services efficiently to new areas. Designed for space-constrained low density locations, it allows for legacy narrowband systems to easily integrate to broadband services for remote residential and multi-tenant/multi-dwelling unit customers. The compact unit can be deployed in small COs to provide broadband services without any infrastructure change. It can also be deployed in an outside plant cabinet and is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 C to 65 C (-40 F to 149 F). This unit can be rack mounted or wall mounted. It is cost-effective and scalable from 24 ports to 72 ports, allowing service providers to minimize initial capital investments and increase capacity as demand increases.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7321 RU provides multi-ADSL connectivity (ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2plus, and RE-ADSL2) to all the subscribers. ADSL2plus allows an increased high-speed Internet access (HSIA) offering, or an initial triple play service by increasing the bandwidth and reach of traditional ADSL. RE-ADSL2 increases the reach of ADSL by approximately 550 meters (1,800 feet), typically providing 512 Kb/s at more than 5 km (16,400 feet) from the CO.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7321 RU can be connected to an Alcatel-Lucent 7300/7301 ASAM over copper wire (8xE1/T1 IMA) or optical fiber (STM-1) for subtending or it can be connected directly to the aggregation network, since it is a fully functional, standalone DSLAM.
