Product Description

Lockheed Martin Distribution Technologies simultaneously designed and deployed two automated material handling and sortation systems for fulfillment distribution centers in Chambersburg, Pa., and Mira Loma, Calif. The contract, which supported an aggressive new construction initiative for an e-commerce company, was completed in an unprecedented 180-day period.

Distribution Technologies implements 'lean' practices; a systematic approach for ensuring that our customers receive exactly what they want; when they want it; with the minimum amount of materials, equipment, labor and space being consumed. This enables us to deliver integrated, end-to-end order fulfillment material handling systems in record time.

System Overview

Distribution Technologies was responsible for providing sorting and conveyance equipment to automate order picking, processing and dispatching.

• Sorting is accomplished using a tilt-tray sorter with approximately 400 output chutes.
• Several different conveyors are used depending on the application.
• Linear sorters are used to sort boxes between various shipping options in the dispatch area.
