Product Description

Thin client

A variety of server-centric computing where applications and data are hosted on a central server and manipulated / displayed using potentially low-cost client devices. Data flow between the two can be minimized to key strokes and screen data. This can be more secure, manageable, affordable and reliable than client-server architecture, where data and applications reside on high-specification PCs spread throughout the organization. The opportunity for running thin-client solutions is now being realized in new markets with the introduction of always-on connections.

For thin client solutions see:

Virtual private network (VPN)

Provides remote offices or users with a secure, private connection to their company's network via a public telecommunications infrastructure, such as the Internet. In contrast to traditional methods of extending private networks, such as owned or leased lines, the use of a public network and VPN technology offers considerable cost savings and flexibility.

For VPN solutions see:

Remote access

In many corporations branch offices or travelling employees need access to the corporate network for activities such as e-mail. By installing a Remote Access Server (RAS) or similar system, dial-in and Internet connections can be established whilst maintaining network security.

For remote access solutions see:
