A WDM infrastructure is ideal in situations where fiber is expensive, for applications requiring large amounts of bandwidth, or when storage or flexible service rate transport is required. • Common Photonic Layer
  The Common Photonic Layer (CPL) is the key building block in transforming the network towards Adaptive, All Optical Intelligent networking. It leverages years of proven expertise in developing and building Metro, Regional and Long Haul Optical Networks, and offers a completely disruptive approach for simplification of the photonic layer by separating the Service Network Elements (NEs) from the Optical Line. CPL supports enhanced ROADM (eROADM) capabilities, allowing unrestricted add/drop and redirection of any wavelength at any port, enabling on-the-fly wavelength insertion/termination and addition of new optical paths (branches) without re-engineering or service interruption.
• Optical Long Haul 1600
  The Optical Long Haul 1600 incorporates a modular optical amplifier design with the MOR Plus and Optical 1600G amplifiers.
• Optical Metro 5000 Series
  The Nortel Optical Metro 5000 Series harnesses the power of WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) to transparently deliver high bandwidth network services across an open, scalable and survivable optical transport platform.
• Optical Metro 5100
  The Optical Metro 5100 is a compact Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) platform that is designed to cost effectively extend optical broadband services to the network edge.
• Optical Metro 5200
  The Optical Metro 5200 is a forecast-tolerant, DWDM data-optimized, survivable platform for metropolitan access and interoffice applications.
• Optical Modeler
  Optical Modeler is the link engineering tool supporting design and implementation of Nortel’s Common Photonic Layer (CPL) networks.
