Living Tomorrow : innovations in the House and Office of the Future.
:: 22 March, 2007
New Living Tomorrow project works with leading companies to present a unique vision of the future: the World of Tomorrow.
Vilvoorde, 22 January 2007 – After two successful projects in Belgium and a first international project in the Netherlands entitled "House and Office of the Future", Living Tomorrow is opening a new innovation project in Brussels (Vilvoorde) to the general public on 1 March 2007. This project sheds some light on the World of Tomorrow, the "House, Office and Creative Industries of the Future". 1,000,000 visitors are expected during the 5-year exhibition period (2007-2012).
In 2005 Living Tomorrow began with the start-up of this new project. They selected the leading companies in each specialist area. Together with the companies – or "participants" – Living Tomorrow is working in its Research Lab to investigate how everyday life will change as a result of innovations in technology and service.
Living Tomorrow has set up some twenty working groups, the so-called "special projects", to work on innovation in specific disciplines such as construction, ICT, interior design, the environment, consumer goods, office automation etc. There are about ten companies in each working group. "Living Tomorrow, thanks to many years of expertise and an extensive fund of human capital, succeeds in guiding the working groups through the innovation process" explains Frank Beliën, the co-founder of Living Tomorrow. "This involves a lot of study, vision and knowledge."
Living Tomorrow showcases many different people-centered innovations in the House and Office of the Future. Now Living Tomorrow also sheds light on the world outside, in the Creative Industries. Living Tomorrow guides visitors through the Store and Bank of the Future, allows him to take a look at the Car of the Future, contemplates Air Travel of the Future and there are demonstrations of Health and Energy of the Future.
Market research and synergies between the participants ensure a permanent, people-oriented flow of innovation
The project has an exhibition period from 2007-2012, during which time it will be constantly renewed.
"Living Tomorrow aims to inform its visitors about the coming trends and developments and allow them to experience what role these may come to play in their lives." says Peter Bongers, Co-Founder of Living Tomorrow. "The project and its participants also want to initiate a lively debate with consumers and businesses to find out which aspects they consider to be important in their future lives. Thus Living Tomorrow is seeking not only to show what is possible, given the technologies and services of today and tomorrow, but visitors are also invited to participate in an exchange of views on the subject."
Through market research, new technologies and services are constantly evaluated, adapted and then demonstrated again in the complex. Living Tomorrow serves as a dynamic market research platform in which test cases can be displayed and tested in a real life setting. Living Tomorrow can therefore guarantee continued, people-oriented innovation.
Role in society as a “Driver of Innovation”
"The Living Tomorrow building and the innovations that are demonstrated, however, only form a part of the activities of "Living Tomorrow", declares Joachim De Vos, Innovation Director at Living Tomorrow."Within the four walls of Living Tomorrow we are trying to express all the developments that are currently taking place in our society." As well as demonstrating specific technologies and services, however, Living Tomorrow will also encourage innovation in society. This is because Living Tomorrow looks at how the internal process of innovation in companies can be implemented and stimulated.
