Protecting machines from excessive vibrations
:: 07 July, 2007
The new series 684 indicator alarm module from the IMI Sensors division of PCB Piezotronics is said to be economical for machine shutdown protection applications when increased vibration levels signify potential failure.
These modules are available in various sizes and include up to eight channels in a single NEMA 4X enclosure. ICP (IEPE) piezoelectric or 4-20mA sensors interface directly with the system, which is universally powered and provides appropriate excitation voltages. Within each indicator channel is up to four form C relays for alarm and shutdown control. Time delays and pushbutton programmable settings allow for simple set-up with no false alarms. Indicator lights on the front of each unit display relay status.
News Inside News :
Each meter has the ability to integrate an acceleration signal and display the units in acceleration, velocity or displacement on the high-visibility display. The raw vibration signal can be accessed via BNC connections on the front of the module for easy interface with data collection equipment. Also available is the capability to retransmit a signal for straightforward interface with existing PLC, DCS, and Scada systems. Series 684A vibration alarm modules conform to applicable European Directives for CE marking.

About PCB Piezotronics :
PCB Piezotronics was founded in 1967 as a manufacturer of piezoelectric quartz sensors, accelerometers, and associated electronics for the measurement of dynamic pressure, force, and vibration. The unique expertise of the company was the incorporation of microelectronic signal conditioning circuitry within these sensors to make them easier to use and more environmentally compatible. These ICPฎ sensors gained wide popularity and became the foundation for the company's success.
Subsequent growth and steady investment in facilities, machinery, and equipment permitted a constant broadening of the product offering. Measurement capabilities expanded with the addition of piezoceramic, tourmaline, capacitive, piezoresistive, and strain gage sensing technologies. Ensuing products include industrial accelerometers, DC accelerometers, load cells, torque sensors, microphones, pressure transmitters, and calibration equipment.
The backbone of the company is its mission statement: Total Customer Satisfaction. This mission is not only supported by products that offer great value, but also by an unconditional warranty. Factory applications engineering and a worldwide network of sales offices and representatives are readily available to assist with customer requests.
