Music Matters 2007 forum in Hong Kong today announced a major upgrade to its motomusic.com.cn portal

:: 30 May, 2007

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) the mobile sponsor at the Music Matters 2007 forum in Hong Kong today announced a major upgrade to its motomusic.com.cn portal, and called on the leaders of the music business to join with Motorola and mobile network operators around Asia to create a music renaissance

Hot on the heels of announcing its new ROKR brand of music-optimized handsets and accessories, highlighted by the powerful ROKR Z6, Motorola announced that it has upgraded and expanded its online entertainment portal (motomusic.com.cn). The MOTOMusic site in mainland China now offers over 100,000 music tracks for purchase and download, securing the portal’s position as the leading online commercial music service in the country. Similar sites are currently in Hong Kong (www.motomusic.com.hk) and Taiwan (www.motomusic.com.tw).

“In the face of the changes that digitization has wrought on the music industry, we must work together to create new ways to experience the music we all love, ways that are relevant to the way Asians live today,” said Michael Tatelman, corporate vice president and president of Motorola Asia Pacific Mobile Devices. “Making that happen is going to take more than outstanding mobile devices – it demands that manufacturers, operators, artists, labels, and service providers share a vision that recognizes that the future of music is mobile, and that we must make mobile music even better than the music experiences we grew up with.”

Motorola’s success in delivering a seamlessly integrated music experience owes much to the work the company has taken on to build a complete mobile music ecosystem. Motorola has developed a cool, advanced, but straightforward online website experience for users to visit and download their favorite tunes – motomusic.com.cn, motomusic.com.hk or motomusic.com.tw.

Mobile Music Online

The entire MOTOMusic China site has recently been given a complete overhaul and upgrade worldwide, with a cool new appearance and a revolutionary new user experience. Maintaining the original of the site, but with a completely new finish, motomusic.com.cn provides users with four distinct areas to visit and interact with: the music store, the Motorola music community, music express (featuring news, reviews and recommendations from music gurus), and a section just for reviews, information and additions for your Motorola handset. People can now use the site to do anything from finding out about artists and music to actually discovering, buying and downloading music directly to their phone. For more personalization, users can customize their own album and album cover and share this with the entire community.

The new site is targeted to support rich musical content, friendly and interactive functions, unique and professional music guidance, and an online community, offering an even better experience for motomusic.com.cn users. Based on web2.0 technology, with a fancy and cool design, the service now includes play list creation, management, and sharing, buddy interaction, music guidance articles, mobile phone sections to recommend music devices and companion products, and an advanced tagging function that enables users to label any kind of content (music, articles, play list, MVs) with any text they like in order to improve sharing within the online community.

“MOTOMusic has flourished, particularly in China, where we teamed-up with more than 30 leading international and local music labels to build a growing community for music enthusiasts,” said Tatelman. “In a little over two years motomusic.com.cn has had over 700 million page views and over a million songs purchased, making it the leading legal music download site in the country.”

Now, with over 100,000 tracks available for purchase and download, the portal appeals to more than just enthusiasts, and motomusic.com.cn has positioned Motorola as the leader in mobile music devices and distribution, both in China and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole. The site now covers musical content from more than 50 music companies, split generally into Pop (82%), Rock (12%), and Classical (5%), guaranteeing that there will be something for everyone to rock out to on their Motorola handset!

“Motorola’s ability to offer more than 100,000 songs, covering such a wide range of genres, for Chinese music lovers is extremely impressive,” said Jami Yang, Deputy Managing Director from SonyBMG China. “And when you combine that with the new slick and intuitive interface of motomusic.com.cn, the result is a truly unparalleled mobile music experience.”

Motorola’s commitment to artists and to their music is represented by Jay Chou, one of Asia’s most popular musical artists and Motorola’s music ambassador for Asia Pacific. One of the most recent additions to motomusic.com.cn was an exclusive Jay Chou mini-site that includes both special features, unique content, and all of Jay’s existing songs for download.

“With a Motorola handset, and MOTOMusic, my fans can literally enjoy and share any of my music anytime and anywhere,” said Jay Chou. “In addition to offering the coolest phones in the world, Motorola's dedication to delivering a superior user experience, especially in mobile music, is very important to me, and to everyone who makes music a part of their life.”
