A superb opportunity has arisen for an experienced Hardware Design Engineer with proven Aerospace experience of FPGA and VHDL design.

VHDL/FPGA engineer (A350 ETRAS)

Initial contract - Six months, start ASAP

Required Skills

1. Strong experience of FPGA design including FPGA specification, VHDL code design, simulation and synthesis.

2. Experience with the following software tools: VHDL simulators (e.g. Modelsim), synthesis tools (e.g. Synplicity).

3. Familiarity with FPGA technologies (e.g. Actel, Xilinx, Altera).

4. A proactive style, team spirit, high energy level, positive outlook, and commitment to deliver with appropriate diligence. The individual may be asked to work long hours (e.g. some evening and weekend working).

5. Good problem-solving skills, and written and verbal communication skills.


Non-essential but beneficial skills

Familiarity with DO-254, DOORS, and/or experience in a Military or Aerospace environment would be of interest but is not a requirement.

The Role

This vacancy is for a VHDL/FPGA engineer. The intention is to focus on FPGA design for the A350 Electronic Thrust Reverser Controller. Prototype standard hardware is currently scheduled for completion by approximately December 2008. Processes and standards shall be applied as appropriate to facilitate subsequent generation of the production standard and certification of the latter to DO-254 level B.

Tasks may include the following:-

a) FPGA specification writing, development, review, approval and maintenance. Resulting in a specification which is: aligned to and traceable to higher level requirements, written at the required level, and at the required standard (e.g. fully specified, unambiguous and testable).

b) VHDL code design to applicable processes and standards, maintaining compliance with specification and traceability, supporting development changes with FPGA revisions under the required standard of configuration management.

c) Simulation test design to applicable processes/ standard to check compliance of FPGA design to FPGA specification (including definition of verification requirements and report).

d) Preparation and maintenance of documentation, and successful completion of reviews as per the agreed schedule.

e) Independent review of deliverables produced by others (specification, code review, firmware release, testbench, verification plan and report etc).
