Job Description: 1. Review engineering plans and specifications prepared by A/E
consultants for compliance with Owners' Design guidelines and engineering
specifications, including NFPA 101, NFPA 70, NFPA 99, NFPA 110, IBC and other
related building & life safety code compliance.
2. Clarify and resolve technical issues during design. Confirm the overall
design approach proposed by the A/E team is fit for purpose with the
Institution's requirement. Ensure state and federal rules, and other regulations
are followed and business is conducted in the most ethical and legal manner.
3. Provide electrical engineering guidance to project managers and construction
managers during the design and construction phases of projects. Clarify and
resolve technical issues to advise project managers during construction of
capital projects, including review of contractor submittals, RFI's, change
proposals, and other construction administration documents upon request.
4. Develop and maintain Owner's Design Guidelines (Design Guideline Elements and
Specifications) for electrical systems and communicate information to all
Facilities Management groups and consultants. Facilitate production and
communication of revisions to the Owner's Design Guidelines.
5. Communicate design issues and their outcomes with users, project managers and
A/E team. Make efforts in listening to and understanding the customer;
anticipating customer needs; giving high priority to customer satisfaction.
Focus on good industrial practice ensuring the facilities designed are
maintainable.
6. Stay current in technology and serve as a technical resource. Communicate and
gain concurrence with other Facilities Management groups for a common direction
on new standards and design methods.
7. Periodically visit construction sites to determine compliance with Contracts.
Report construction discrepancies, errors, and omissions to the Project Manager.
8. Other related functions as assigned.
Skills Required: Function: Represents Capital Planning and Management on complex
projects providing electrical engineering technical expertise. Has full
technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and
coordinating assignments. Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or
outside his/her organization, with responsibility for acting independently on
technical matters pertaining to his/her field.
Scope: Under general direction, provides technical support for the development
and implementation of all phases of major design and construction projects.
Assures compliance with, and adheres to institutional and industry standards.
Language Requirements: English-Very Good
