This position reports to the Manager - Nuclear Plant
Engineering, and is responsible for providing engineering leadership for the
deployment of new nuclear generating facilities in the Carolinas and Florida.
The first principle area of Engineering responsibility is the development of the
Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) for each proposed nuclear site based on the
design-certified Westinghouse Advanced Passive AP1000 design. The FSAR is the
primary component of the Combined Operating License (COL) application submitted
to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Engineering support of the NRC
review process of the FSAR (and other COL application documents) would continue
through the NRC?s Request-for Additional-Information (RAI) phase and Atomic
Safety & Licensing Board (ASLB) mandatory hearings, until the COL is issued.
This engineering position will be focused specifically on the Electrical
Engineering aspects of the Westinghouse Advanced Passive AP1000 Nuclear Steam
Supply Systems (NSSS) and Balance of Plant (BOP) Systems, including the
associated AC, DC, and UPS electrical distribution systems, and station
batteries.
The second principle area of Engineering responsibility is the design interface
with Westinghouse and other NuStart Energy Development (NuStart) member
companies on the Engineering design finalization of the standardized AP1000
nuclear plant island, which includes the Reactor Building, Turbine, Building,
Waste Processing Building, and the Annex Building.
This senior engineer provides technical support within the project, and will
support industry resolution of specific AP1000 technical issues (examples ?
electrical buses, batteries, switchgear etc.) within the industry. This senior
engineer will work within the nuclear power industry community to resolve
electrical design technical issues that affect the entire AP1000 fleet across
multiple utilities.
For each proposed nuclear site, the additional electrical engineering
responsibilities include oversight of design development (electrical
discipline-specific portions) of site specific structures such as natural draft
cooling towers and intake make-up structures, etc., that are outside of the
scope of the standard AP1000 nuclear plant island.
This position is functionally based in Raleigh, North Carolina, but involves
travel to the proposed new nuclear sites, and to various industry forums (NEI,
NuStart, EPRI, and the U.S. NRC).
Job Requirements:
Nuclear power plant design engineering specific experience is required for
this position.
Nuclear power plant Architect/Engineer (A/E) based design engineering
experience is preferred for this position.
Experience with operating nuclear power plants is required for this position.
Progress Energy's mission is to provide a safe, secure working environment for
personnel in the plants. The selected candidate will be required to obtain
U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access and will participate in the
company's Fitness-for-Duty Program. In order to obtain unescorted access, the
selected candidate will be required to complete a Personal History
Questionnaire (PHQ). Information from this form will be used to conduct an
extensive background investigation as required by Title 10 of the Code of
Federal Regulations. It is unlikely you will be granted access if (1) you have
had a positive drug or alcohol test within the past five years, (2) you have
used or possessed drugs in the past five years, (3) you have a felony
conviction in the past five years, (4) you have recent misdemeanor
convictions, (5) you falsify or omit information or fail to fully cooperate
during the investigation process. This list is not inclusive.
Basic requirements: Lead level. Coaches and communicates with other team
members to implement objectives. Plans and assigns personnel for projects and
tasks. Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to results
expected. Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET or equivalently
accredited school and 7+ years professional experience.
