Description
This is a principal level position within the Network Engineering group reporting to the Senior Director of Service Integration Architecture. The Service Integration Architecture group has responsibility for all aspects of collecting new product and service requirements from the Product and Systems Engineering teams and the various Business Units and assisting in translating those needs into Network Engineering deliverables. The Principal Engineer will play a lead role in the coordination of the design and expansion of the Comcast infrastructure focusing on new Voice technology and VoIP commercial service expansion. The successful candidate will assess the network infrastructure impact of Commercial VoIP technologies and lead the future network infrastructure design directions.

Main Responsibilities
o Coordinate and Assist in the design and documentation of Comcast's IP
network. Solutions should be in accordance with Comcast policies. Able to lead
major network design efforts from concept to deployment.
o Contribute to VoIP architecture evolution and its impact to the Converged RAN
architecture to support new and emerging services.
o Evaluate new VoIP technologies and how they can impact Comcast's IP network.
o Research industry trends, products and vendors. Expected to turn conceptual
ideas into complete network solutions.
o Work closely with Product and Systems Engineering, CDV Business Units and
external companies with understanding and assessing the impact of new products
and services onto the Converged Network.
o Strong experience with customer environments, support for inside and outside
plant design and implementation issues.
o Proven background in Service Provider environments, Service Level Agreements
and experience with customer relations and support.
o Maintain sound knowledge of network standards and practices including IEEE,
IETF, ISO, ITU-T, ISAC, ANSI, NIST (ANTD), CableLabs.
o Will be expected to understand at a high level IP routing protocols such as
BGP-4 and OSPF.
o Is expected to have knowledge of SIP, IMS, SMB, SS7 and DSCP.
o Strong knowledge of Cisco BTS and MGX architectures, CedarPoint Safari
technologies
o Knowledge of Broadsoft soft switches.
o Strong knowledge of eMTA's, CMTS's, boot files, DOCSIS specifications.
o Analyze traffic flows, patterns and forecasted network growth to optimize
design
o Support IP Engineering process development and standardization efforts.
o Coordinate the integration of VoIP services and products onto the national
backbone and assist with requirements planning for VoIP peering.
o Work independently with little supervision while providing clear documented
status and progress of work activities and business issues that impact the
department.
o Participate on interdepartmental teams to support organizational goals.
o Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering or a related field. Equivalent certification(s) is a plus.
Experience:
o At least 5 yrs of direct experience in the design, forecasting and
implementation of a Service Provider environment or ISP equivalent environment.
o Candidate is required to have knowledge and a demonstrable understanding of
voicemail technologies (IP and PBX), troubleshooting circuit switches,
experience with TDM and DACS.
o General understanding of TCP/IP is required.
o Wide area network design and implementation strongly preferred.
o Large scale VoIP Telephony experience strongly preferred.
o ILEC/CLEC experience a plus.
o Experience mapping business requirements to technology capabilities,
identifying gaps and omissions, and designing end-to-end solutions.
o Strong experience with Commercial customer account management and working with
external customers.
o Demonstrated initiative to build relationships both internally and externally
with minimal supervision/direction from management.
o Proven ability to manage multiple tasks/projects as well as to lead small,
directed projects
