Virginia Transformer Corp. is the #1 manufacturer of industrial custom power
transformers in North America. We also serve the utility and export markets in
North America and the Middle East. The company is head quartered in Roanoke,
Virginia and has three plants in North America: Pocatello, ID, Chihuahua,
Mexico, and Roanoke, VA. Virginia Transformer Corp. employs over 500 people in
these three facilities and also has a design office in Mumbai, India. We
manufacture transformers from 300 KVA to 300 MVA. Since 1971 our business has
grown based on our commitment to address special transformation needs of the
customer. Due to business growth of 25% annually, we are currently planning to
fill many new positions in our Roanoke, VA, headquarters and plant.
Electrical engineers will be responsible for the electromagnetic design to
meet the electrical performance of the transformer. They will create the least
cost design consistent with the past performance data, customer spec, internal
and external standards. They will participate in teams to develop and lower
the cost of mechanical systems and manufacturing time. They will learn how the
design process works and then apply this knowledge to optimize the design by
using computer to do calculations. They will work with sales and shop /
materials personnel to solve issues and keep the train on schedule. Knowledge
of electrical power systems will be helpful to understand the performance
requirements of the transformer.
Mechanical Engineers are needed to optimize the mechanical system for
containing the electrical assembly weighing up to 100,000 lbs. The successful
candidates should be able to apply mechanics, strength of materials, thermal
and vibration analysis to optimize the package wt, size and temp rise of the
coils. They should be conversant with formulae and mechanical and thermal
properties of metals and plastics. Experience in Cad design and familiarity
with finite element techniques is desirable. Experience in packaging heavy
instruments with attention to mechanical and thermal constraints and
temperature and vibration testing instrumentation would be helpful.
