Responsibilities and prospects for professional growth include:

' Technical responsibility for consulting with clients for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
' Estimate SIS efforts, including all aspects of an SIS project from HAZOPs & LOPA though project
' implementation and startup
' Participate in HAZOPs development with clients
' Develop Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) for processes with clients
' Do Safety Integrity Level (SIL) analysis for processes
' Define safety requirements specifications (SRS) for Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF),
' applying Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) in plants and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) analysis
' Develop SIFs & Cause & Effect Matrices (CEMs)
' Be a mentor to SIS automation engineers
' Lead other engineers in SIS project efforts
' Carry out responsibilities of SIS Automation Engineer on projects, in addition to SIS consulting
' Work on a project team with other professionals
' Work with new product technologies such as DeltaV SIS, AMS
' Apply S84 and IEC 61511 to project implementation
' Document all project work per IEC 61511 guidelines and procedures

Qualifications and experience required:
' PE
' CSFE
' Experience as process safety engineer in plant
' Process control engineering at a Refinery or Petrochemical plant
' Field experience working in a Refinery or Petrochemical plant
' Legal authorization to work in the USA on a full time basis for other than current employer
' BSEE or BSChE or equivalent
' Experience doing HAZOPs analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and SIL analysis in process plants
' Clear understanding of role of both BPCS & SIS in process plants
' Working knowledge of BPCS (DCS) & SIS systems from both hardware and configuration aspect
' Clear understanding and working knowledge of IEC 61511, S84, and IEC 61508
' 6-10 years working with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) or Emergency Shutdown Systems
' (ESD) on projects
' Experience in configuring systems SIFs from Control Narratives, P&IDs, and CEMs
' Experience implementing projects with large Refining and Petrochemical companies
' Experience in delivering FEED studies
' Experience implementing both grass-roots and control system upgrade projects
' Experience executing both Fixed Price and Reimbursable projects
' Experience implementing SIFs on competitive systems, such as Triconex, Triplex, Honeywell
' FSC, Siemens/Moore Quadlog, or PLCs
' Excellent verbal & written communications skills
' Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
' Proven ability to manage scope and meet project schedules for SIS projects
' Ability to build and sustain customer relationships
' Ability to organize work, with good attention to detail
' Must convey a professional image with customers
