  • Harris Corporation is serving as the systems integrator and provides overall program management for the U.S. Census Bureau's 5-year $600 million dollar Field Data Collection Automation (FDCA) program. This critical program for the 2010 Census includes the design, development, testing and deployment of advanced, automated systems that will deliver near real-time data using an architecture with multiple and overlapping security features, including fingerprint authentication, password authentication, role-based access, automatic data encryption, firewalls, and virus protection

    • Responsible for supporting hardware system engineering on the US Census Bureau’s Field Data Collection Automation project and the design of the computing environment.
    • Develops guidelines and procedures on vendor selection.
    • Develops Commercial Item Description drawings for the selection and configuration of the major system COTS components, including PCs, laptops, routers, switches, servers, printers and plotters
    • Provides integration support for rack designs, parts lists and interconnection diagrams.
    • Investigates alternate technologies or suppliers that reduce cost and improve quality and reliability and implement changes as approved.
    • Sources, selects, and qualifies computer hardware, software and components used in the system design solution technology.
    • Acts as technical interface between component and product suppliers and development engineers and determining new and alternate sources.
    • Evaluates supplier change notification and qualifies changes.
    • Oversees, coordinates, and resolves problems with material procurement and initial system installations at the Washington DC test facility location and at initial customer site locations.
    • Maintains component data management systems including qualification records, results and documentation.
    Requirements
    Qualifications:
    • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field and a minimum of 9 years experience. A Masters in Systems Engineering is a plus.


    Experience:
    • Experience managing projects and performing vendor relations is important.
    • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, peripherals and components is essential.
