The Engineering Specialist - Communications works with internal software
development teams as well as external customers and competitors to implement
communications protocols in embedded controls. This position also interfaces
with hardware engineers with physical layer design and development issues.
This position is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation
of protocols used in White-Rodgers products in a new product
development/introduction environment. The incumbent will be responsible for
designing and assisting hardware developers in developing the requisite
physical layer interface for communicating system the product must be
compatible with. The incumbent will also interface with software developers
tasked with implementing communicating protocols into products. The position
will interface with OEM customers, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing,
Purchasing, Quality, and Reliability to guide/assist others in the development
of new controls and communicating systems. Some travel (occasionally with
little notice) is required to customers, suppliers, off site engineering
centers, problem field sites, or manufacturing facilities.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering (BSEE), electrical
and computer engineering (BSECE), or computer engineering (BSCE) is strongly
preferred. Candidates without any degree may be considered depending on prior
work experience, training and education completed. The ideal candidate will
have experience with both networking and programming, however, networking is
required. Candidate must have prior experience implementing TCP/IP stack in 8
bit micro. Must have experience with 802.15.4 and 802.11 drivers as well as
CAN bus and serial communications bus. Knowledge of electronic circuit design
(both digital and analog), embedded networking protocols, and familiarity with
C programming is a must.Good verbal and written communication skills for
dealing with other departments and with customers is required. Familiarity
with automatic controls and/or HVAC equipment is desirable.
