Siemens Energy and Automation, Inc. has an opening for a Controls Project Engineer. This position is within the Postal Automation/Parcel Systems department located in Irving, Texas. Siemens is a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of package and material handling conveyors and systems. The successful candidate will be highly proficient in the business and technical skills of system concepting and estimating equipment application, engineering, equipment and structural designs, fabrication, and project management. The candidate will participate in the planning, can direct and appraise the performance of all other Project Team activities - i.e., erection, field wiring, purchasing, subcontractors, Control Engineering, computer software and hardware.

Primary Duties:
• Functions with very limited supervision and high demonstrated skills in the
engineering of major material handling systems, supervising designers, and
deciding on equipment applications. Is capable of being the lead engineer on the
largest and most complex projects undertaken by the Group. Shares the total
coordination and business responsibilities in managing the project with the
Project Manager.
• Will organize, coordinate, and act as the first line engineering supervisor on
several engineering projects concurrently. Manages the activities of a wide
variety of people during the course of each project. Trains junior members of
the Project Team. Develops new technical techniques and equipment as required.
Prepares testing and prototype programs, directs the activities and evaluates
results.
• Has a thorough knowledge of the project specifications and checks all work
being performed under his/her direction for performance to these specifications.
Is responsible for the quality of engineering on assigned projects. Maintains a
complete set of project engineering records on all assignments.
• May receive assignments as Project Manager on small and medium size projects
with limited supervision and on large projects with a somewhat closer
relationship to an Engineering Manager or the Manager, Project Management.
• As a member of the Project Team, he/she participates in the proposal
preparation, the estimating and presentations to the customers.
• As the Project Manager, he/she is responsible for achieving the composite
functional and profit objectives for the total period.
• Personally negotiates all changes to assigned projects and calls upon other
team members - i.e., Finance, Sales, etc., for participation as required.
• Brings the project to a successful conclusion and obtains acceptance.
• Participates in the performance evaluation of Team members in all departments.
Evaluates the performance of vendors and subcontractors. Achieves management of
these matters, together with inputs on problems and recommend new products.
• Frequent travel is required in this position. Usually trips are planned and
are of short duration. However, requests for travel on short notice can be made
and extended travel is sometimes required in support of systems commissioning
and acceptance.
• This position includes possible temporary assignment to other Engineering
Departments.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Engineering Degree or equivalent.
• 4 to 8 years technical and business systems experience, including knowledge of
control computer equipment, erection, field wiring, subcontracting, Purchasing,
and Finance.
• Successful track record of supervising and engineering systems projects up to
$10 million value as a Sr. Systems Engineer.
• Excellent oral, written and presentation skills. Customer orders and/or
Engineering drawings, establish part numbers, load bills of material (BOM), load
routings, establish time standards, administer PCO releases, maintain drawing
revision control and establish inventory criteria in the MRP data base. This
data will serve as a foundation for inventory control, standard material cost
functions, and will foster efficient plant operation and timely shipment of
product to Customers.
