The Designer/Draftsman will independently create instrument design concepts
based on verbal description of the problem to be solved. He/she will participate
in multifunctional teams to advance medical device projects through the
design/development process. The position reports to an Engineering Manager and
may work under the direction of a Project Engineer, Project Manager or Principal
Engineer on a project-by-project basis.
- Take product/process concepts and prepare layouts, tolerance analysis,
models and detailing of implant and instrumentation utilizing ProEngineer
- Work with project engineers to develop and carry out the project through
the various steps of the design solution and development
- Coordinate and assist with in-house or outside vendor protyping and
manufacturing associated with the development process
- Interface with cross-functional teams, clinical advisors and vendors for
evaluation of new products as well as address design issues/ maintenance of
existing ones
- Utilize, apply and adhere to design control procedures
- Maintain product electronic files and is repsonsible for design and
documentation archival
- Keeps customers in mind (internal and external) and works effectively to
achieve team and organizational goals
- Identifies problems and suggests solutions for assigned projects /
programs
- Keeps abreast of new technologies and medical procedures through
literature, publications and meetings in order to develop innovative solutions
to solve customer needs
- Proficient in ProEngineer modeling/drafting or equivalent 3 D software
(3-5 years)
- Proficient Design Experience in the medical device industry or
equivalent (3-5 years)
- Familiarity with design controls within a regulated industry helpful
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and GD&T
- Familiar with common manufacturing techniques and therefore has ability
to design products that are manufacturable
- Demonstrate an ability to learn, apply new skills quickly and work in a
team environment
- Able to interact effectively with Surgeons
- CAD Modeling and Drafting Training; ProEngineer preferred. CAM
training a plus
- Courses in GD&T or equivalent
- Strong Oral and written communication skills required
