Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations :
The Product Support Engineer will implement program goals and participate as a
critical member of various Product Development teams to develop processes from
initial concept definition through full repair cycle in order to enhance overall
product serviceability and reliability. The PSE will insure that all departments
within the Global Services Division are ready to support new products upon
release. An individual in this position will be responsible for multiple, large,
complex projects from initial concept through manufacture and repair; plans and
manages engineering activities, working closely with other disciplines
throughout the corporation. The work scope will include management of capital
and product development budgets and significant impact to corporate
profitability and sales goals.
Key Objectives/Activities: • Provide serviceability recommendations to
design engineering. • Provide technical recommendations during product lifecycle
events. • Implementation of Symbol's Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) and
conduct periodic project phase transfer reviews. • Complete service delivery
readiness checklist. • Reporting program status to Symbol management. •
Definition of product requirements, cost, capital, & fixture requirements. •
Objective evaluation of product viability and assessment of risk. • Conduct
negotiations and discussions involving internal associates and external
suppliers. • Complete cost analysis for product serviceability. • Document
service delivery process (Depot, Call center & On-site). • Create and distribute
service delivery plans to all GSD Operations Management. • Implement Engineering
Change Notices and Field Flashes worldwide. • Compile Mean Time Between Returns
(MTBR) analysis and feedback. • SPR reviews.^^
Specific Knowledge/Skills :
Required Skills: Typically requires a Bachelors of Science degree in an
Engineering discipline with a Master of Science in Engineering or Master's
degree in Business preferred. • 7 to 10 years of engineering experience
required. • Thorough technical understanding and in-depth knowledge of products
and processes, as well as state-of-the-art design, assembly, & reverse logistic
techniques. Experience in Project Management and working on cross-functional
teams is preferred. The ideal candidate for this position has balanced
experience in both Engineering and Project Management.
