A. Primary Function
Responsible for the development of embedded software in implantable neural
stimulation systems and associated external devices. This position requires the
ability to specify, design, analyze, simulate, prototype, document, code, test
and release to manufacturing the aforementioned software.
B. Duties and Responsibilities
Hands-on: : Responsible for the development of embedded software in implantable
neural stimulation systems and associated external devices. This position
requires the ability to specify, design, analyze, simulate, prototype, document,
code, test and release to manufacturing the aforementioned software.
Problem Solving: Organize, plan, track and close out design problems associated
with product performance in Engineering, Manufacturing and the field.
Leadership: Provide technical leadership for software engineers and technicians.
Coordinate design and implementation activities of software team. Planning:
Develop specifications, architectures, designs, schedules, test plans, etc.
related to product development activities and product upgrades.
Recruiting & Hiring: Participate in specifying, identifying and hiring the
engineering and technical talent necessary to meet the project objectives.
Processes: Use standard design processes to support product development and
improve productivity. Participates and facilitates process improvement within
their discipline (e.g., design methodologies, standards and tool evaluation).
Regulatory: Work with the Regulatory department to ensure that design and test
specifications for the system meet or exceed all applicable regulatory
standards.
Meetings & Presentations: Participate in and present at department level
meetings, project status and problem solving results.
C. Specialized Knowledge & Skills
Embedded Software Design: Knowledge and experience in embedded software design
is required. Experience in an ASIC environment is preferred. Experience with
various microprocessor architectures is required. Experience in software
development for implantable medical devices is desired.
Real-time Programming: Experience in real-time C and assembly level programming
is required.
Technical Leadership: Have a record of successful product introductions as an
engineer.
Object Oriented Design: A basic understanding of object oriented design in
software systems is required.
Operating Style: Self-starter, hands on, direct and clear communicator, honest,
genuine, confident and secure. Good people, motivational skills are a necessity.
Must possess a broad technical and application knowledge base.
D. Experience
Total Experience: Minimum of 9 years of software design, implementation and
testing of software in commercial products.
Design Experience: Minimum of 9 years experience in embedded commercial software
development including real time embedded software system design.
Product Development: Experience must include the specification, design,
documentation, coding, testing and release to manufacturing of commercial
software.
E. Education & Training
Degrees: BS or equivalent in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical
Engineering; MS preferred.
Training, technical: Evidence of continuing education in technology improvement,
advanced product development tools and processes.
