Soltek SL-75FRN2-L

Details on Soltek SL-75FRN2-L

Of course our tests were based on an engineering sample and retail boards could have better results since not many users have hit the wall with the new board from our observations. The key issue is to obtain memory modules that work hand in hand with the new nForce2 Ultra 400 that boards such as this Soltek SL-75FRN2-L are built upon.

Fueled by the current interest of all the community readers, we take a look at yet another NVIDIA nForce2 motherboard. It has been a long time since we reviewed any Soltek motherboards and with the nForce2 platform being the current rage for the AMD Athlon XP CPUs, we were more than delighted to receive one for evaluation. The Soltek SL-75FRN2-L we have at hand is among the eight different nForce2 motherboard variants that Soltek have in their inventory.

Less than a month back, we received a SL-75FRN-L board based on the nForce2 chipset revision that we have tried and tested among the various nForce2 boards we have reviewed. The SL-75FRN2-L is the same board as the one sent to us initially in every other way except that this new board utilizes the just announced NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400. This chipset had been lingering around for quite sometime now, but it had only been known as a new chipset revision rather than as a new model altogether.

However, it is logically more accurate to say that the nForce2 Ultra 400 is nothing more than a new chipset revision because that is what it is. Recent yield improvements and optimizations have made the nForce2 ‘Northbridge’ chip more overclockable as NVIDIA puts it. As a result, this revision supports FSB400 officially and is possible to crank it up even more if you have the right goods and settings.

In the package, you'll find the following accessories with the motherboard:-

  • Motherboard User’s Manual
  • Soltek Driver and Utilities CD
