Ratpadz GS

Details of Ratpadz GS

It is no secret that among gamers, a good mouse pad is a must have. Within the last year, dozens of new “gamer” mouse surfaces have sprung up from numerous resellers. Ratpadz, designed by Kyle Bennet were one of the original Gamer mouse pads, and quickly became one of the most popular as well.

The Ratpadz GS is basically a revision of the original design. It still features the original 9.5 x 11.5 inch size, but features a newer, lightweight (yet stronger) material, improved anti-skid pads, and a design that can be cleaned simply with soap & water.

First of all, the Ratpadz GS is a perfect upgrade from any standard mouse pad, if you use a cloth mouse pad or none at all, you will notice a definite improvement. I was originally using a Lite Pad, and although it was excellent looking, it had an acrylic surface, which the mouse tended to grip, and it wasn’t quite large enough for most FPS games. The Ratpadz GS gives the user nearly 110 inē of useable surface, it’s simply enormous.

I’m not a heavy gamer, but I do play most of the new games. I’m not going to say that this definitely improved my ability to play any of these games well, but it certainly did seem that the overall gaming experience was smoother. The surface seems to be quite smooth, but has enough grip so that you can maintain precise mouse control.

What surprised me is that although to the touch the Ratpadz GS’ surface feels sort of rough (textured is probably more appropriate), when using a mouse on it, the mouse glided quite smoothly. I believe the idea is that the mouse feet only touch the little bumps, so the total surface area of the pad and the mouse in contact is lessened, decreasing friction.

The Ratpadz is quite large, and for most people this is a bonus, it protects against the mouse falling off the pad during heavy gameplay. For me, however, desk space is limited, and a huge mouse pad is somewhat of an inconvenience. I’ve managed to fit it in, but it would be nice if they sold a slightly smaller version. Other than that, I’m quite happy with it, and I’m sure it will remain my mouse pad of choice for quite some time.

For the average gamer who DOES NOT have any specialized mouse pad, they should definitely consider purchasing a Ratpadz GS, for only $12.99 it’s pretty cheap, and will improve the gaming experience tremendously. However, if you are currently the owner of any “precision” or “gaming” mouse surface, you probably needn’t bother purchasing the GS, although an excellent pad, I’m not sure that it is significantly better than any of the other gaming mouse surfaces. Overall the Ratpadz GS is an excellent mouse pad, and a perfect addition to any gamer’s collection.
